Auditorium Renovations
Queensbury spends a million dollars on modernization
By Sydney Fuller, reporter
A lot of people have been wondering if there will be renovations to the auditorium. Well, the answer is yes, the auditorium will be renovated floor to ceiling. Due to Legacy 2020 being done on time, there is 1.1 million dollars going into our auditorium. On April 1st the auditorium will be going offline until fall concert season. The same people who did Legacy 2020 will be renovating our auditorium. Kim Relyea (as seen in the picture) is the designer for both Legacy 2020 and the auditorium renovations. She has an amazing vision for our new and improved auditorium. Her main goal is to give it a “wow” factor.
To everyone who has gotten splinters on the stage floor, that will be no more. There will be a completely new stage floor. It will be made of a different material than before making it more durable and easier to replace if it gets damaged. The front stage will be Maple Veneer wood flooring in front of a new black curtain. The back of the stage will be black trim and there will also be a new front stage grill. The main goal of the auditorium is a “wow” factor, so that it will be aesthetically pleasing.
Not only will it look nicer, but it will be acoustically tuned, too. Acoustical panels will be added for better sound in the auditorium. There will also be a soundboard on the floor. They will be replacing the lights with LED lights, which are brighter and more energy efficient. There will be lights to highlight in front of the stage, the projector will also be replaced, and there will be a new PA system. There will be new two toned seats added which will be handicapped accessible and there will be lighting on the floor to light up the aisle. The aisle will be gray tight weave carpet and the floor will be gray vinyl. They will be keeping the pit and adding rubber tiles on the floor near the pit.
Although this is not part of the auditorium renovations, a $100,000 grand piano was donated and will be stored in the chorus room. There will be a lift to get the piano to the floor. As mentioned earlier, they are aiming for the auditorium to be aesthetically pleasing, so they plan to add a dramatic wall texture going from light to dark to light. They are making it so your eye is drawn to the frame of the stage. Finally, they want to put a “Q” behind wooden slats in the back of the auditorium, this would match to wooden slats found in the new Queensbury room and outside the front door.
